Visit the Mobigo marketplace and you’ll find listings for hundreds of quality refurbished mobility products. What you won’t see is everything that happens before one of those mobility scooters, powerchairs or walking aids ever earns its spot on the website, so today we’re taking you behind the scenes for a closer look at our intensive inspection process…
Second hand, not second guesses
We believe buying second hand mobility equipment should be straightforward and stress-free – no risk, no fuss. That’s why every product we list is subject to a detailed, up to 100-point inspection by our in-house experts before it goes live. If they aren’t completely satisfied that an item is safe, reliable and ready for a second life, you won’t see it on our site.
Of course, no two products arrive in exactly the same condition and we’re not expecting every item to look and feel like new. Some will have provided their previous owners with years of dependable service, while others will only have been in action a handful of times before finding their way to us.
That's why all our inspections begin with a careful visual assessment. Our technicians examine things like frames, bodywork and other key components for obvious signs of excessive wear or damage. Upholstery is checked for staining and deterioration, while seats and controls are inspected for stability and functionality.
We’re not looking for perfection, but we do need to get an accurate picture of condition, so you know exactly what you’re getting when you choose to shop with us.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Understanding cosmetic condition is important, but it’s not the be all and end all. We know that not everyone prioritises a pristine exterior, so we won’t rule a product out just because it’s got a few scratches or scrapes. We document any marks and include clear photographs in the product’s gallery, so you have all the information you need to make an informed choice.
Arguably the most critical part of our inspection comes next – testing how the equipment performs.
For battery-powered products like mobility scooters and powerchairs, our inspection covers the systems that matter most in day-to-day use. All batteries are extensively checked and power packs replaced if they don’t meet our minimum safety and performance requirements. Every electrical function, including charging ports and ignition controls, is tested and the responsiveness of joysticks and displays is scrutinised. Lights, indicators, reflectors and warning features are checked where fitted, and moving components are examined for smooth, reliable operation. Tyres, wheels and braking systems are also inspected, to ensure a safe and stable ride.
We even extend our screening to the added extras. From keys and chargers to cushions and cup holders, any accessories supplied with a product are checked to make sure they're present and in good working order.
While each type of mobility equipment has its own specific inspection criteria, the exact same principles apply across every listing. If it doesn’t meet the Mobigo Standard, it won’t make the final cut.
It’s all in the detail
Once our professional team are happy that a product is up to scratch, it’s prepared for sale. Any repairs are completed and it’s given a service to tighten, tweak and adjust for peak performance before being thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
Only then will it be marked Good to Go and join the hundreds of mobility listings on our marketplace.
Confidence doesn’t just start when your order arrives, so behind the scenes we’re building it into every listing. We don’t just rely on giving equipment a quick once over or a whizz around the warehouse, we build a detailed description of each item and we use that information to give it an honest condition grade you can trust.
Yes, our process takes time, but if that means more people choose to give refurbished mobility equipment a second lease of life then we’d call that time well spent.
